For dear [livejournal.com profile] snabel – about my town.

I live in the historical part of old town. Can’t say it’s big enough or authentic enough or something but there are some districts and buildings you’d like. They have that special “stone” scent we’ve talk about ^__^ Maybe I’ve told you I graduated in architecture. Since that days I love history of architecture; I live not so far away from that place, and this is my best friend’s cottage roof:

Down to the river:

This district has funny historical name, Velvet Hills. Too many brick roads ( yes, they are mostly _yellow_ ^__^), too many tiny corners, too easy to hide something or someone.

When I was a little girl I was really scared to play at that district. Children talked too much perversive stories about surroundings :\ At the same time I always knew that cottages were quite small and unnatural as if they made for puppets. At the 70ths one of my favorite churches was used as a toy factory; it produced toys for Christmas trees, so ironic.

And when I look at the new quasi-historic hotels and blocks I hope they’d got old-fashioned craquellures one day and became a bit more romantic. Maybe :\

Here is the main orthodox church of the town, dedicated to the Protection of the Theotokos:

It’s new districts behind the river, nothing interesting except one thing: I go to work here four days a week ^___^

And this is seminary’s church’s interior. At the iconostasis you can see some icons I made and restorated.

This is so-called navy church. In the beginning of 18th century Russian emperor Peter the 1st lived here and worked with the ships.

And here you can see 1930ths’s building, the South-Eastern railroads own it. Later father of my husband projected and constructed its inner part. Next photo shows its patio so to say:

Do you remember the picture with mascot Sailor girl I’ve posted in April? Our anime fest opens every year at this _cinema_. The boy who flies so high is my son, Great Overlord himself ^__^

Здесь моя семья снимает домик на лето – if it’s not too dear ^__~ ))
The last photo – princess Oldenbourg’s summer manor I’ve told you about.

I _knew_ you tell this ^_____^
Thank you, really. My son isn't very green and has no tail but he is good enough in walkings on the walls, in flying with a high speed and he _is_ strange boy.

Obvious PS: I still didn't answer to you, sorry. It's enormous, isn't it ^__^ If Great overlord won't come home till 22.00 I'll write to you ^__^ He is biking now with his father.

Thank you! *hug*

I put the text at the beginning through babelfish - for the first time ever, I've never used an online translator before. ^^

Ah yes, the smell of old stone... *sighs*
Must be pretty cool to have a roof like that. And yes, I like the view. It looks... exciting? So much to see when you are up there. It's hard to explain.

Velvet hills - sounds very nice.
The river is really broad, isn't it? Looks beautiful, especially at night, when the water reflects the city lights... I always liked that.
And all those lovely onion domes! <- I hope the word is correct.

The district you were scared of as a child looks very interesting.

>At the same time I always knew that cottages were quite small and unnatural as if they made >for puppets.

Well said... like some kind of urban Maerchenwald (fairytale forest? Enchanted forest?). They are always scary... disney never got that right.
I would love to see one of those cottages myself... I really like the ornaments on the walls. It reminds me of something I can't place.

The orthodox church is beautiful. The golden cupola... the open bell and the ladder... mmmh...
And it's a great picture, too. The flying pigeon! Every time _I_ tried to make a photo with a flying bird I was too late and the bird wasn't in the picture anymore.
The blue house to the left side of the church is very pretty as well. Maybe it's the rectory..?

The seminary's church's interior is just wow. So colourful. And the floortiles... It got restaurated?

To be honest, I like everything and find it fascinating. The picture of the patio of the building built in the thirties is very cool as well. The water, the round construction... the naked cable on the walls. I love stuff like naked cables...

And the photo of your son is just perfect.

*gg*
Looks like he has a lot of fun playing between the columns! Like mainekosama said, YAY for littke overlords! And yes, I remember the picture. You have a nice location for your fest.

And concerning the last ones. I could totally vacation there as well! But Oldenborg... I only know two 'Oldenb(o)urgs', towns, both in Germany, one in Lower Saxony and one in Schleswig Holstein... is there a connection to the princess?

The clock of the church. It looks like the big version of an old pocket watch! I have one of those. Exactly the same, I tell you...

Mmh, that was a long comment, huh? Again, thank you for posting.
And btw, today I sent you the package! I hope it will arrive soon.

^__^
I did hope you liked photos. There’re not very good, I know, but it’s all I own now. If you come to Russia one day you _must_ visit me ^__^
What if you’ll do it with maineko *___* I can easily imagine what three artists’ trip would be like. Voronezh isn’t big enough but I know some places and some interesting people ^__^
About the roof: my best friend Vera lives alone so she’s trying to keep her house in good condition but it’s not so easy. That’s why the roof has pools on its surface; but she’s an artist too, she makes digital and oil paintings – so she needs that kind of romantic at her surroundings :\ In her little garden there are two cherry trees and China lamps hide in the grass; it’s absolutely adorable especially in summer evenings.

Velvet hills were grass ones when I was a child but now it’s not so green there :\ And the river (which name is Voronezh too of course) was transformed in quite huge water reservoir in late 1960th It wasn’t very good idea though. That’s why night views are preferable ^__~ Here you can see these district by the eyes of one very good Moscow men.

About onion domes: such a _visual_ word ^___^ I can’t remember whether I’ve met it in the albums; but it’s very understandable ^__^

About Disney decorations: yeeeeeeesssssss. They doesn’t fit at all. And what is it – Maerchenwald?

About cupolas again: if you’d come we’d take a look at the town from the very high of seminary church. Some of our students study bell music and they must ring on the bells every day, especially at the feasts days of Orthodox church. The blue semi-round building next the church is Orthodox seminary I work at. I am a teacher of iconography class ^__^ It’s not old enough but its condition almost awfull. The project on new complex you can see here:

Concerning the restoration of church itself – yes of course; but it wasn’t very good, some disable materials was used >__< Tiles are just only looks like true tiles, they’re made of plastic, alas.
But painting on the walls was made by natural colors in traditional 17th century’s style.

About stuff with naked cables – I think I can understand this kind of objection ^__^ Here you can see II World War memorial, bombed hospital near the downtown, the example of conservation.

About my son: thank you both once again *__* I do love him.
What I have to say about Oldenburgs: for example here, here and here (Google tells us about this place ^__^) you can read some words about princess Eugeny’s manor and about her relations with German roots. It’s really not far away from town, and too many people go here for summer holidays because on the river’s banks there are so many camps.
I’d like to take a look at your watch ^__^ When I’ll start new picture about Alice in Wonderland I could give them to White Rabbit ^__^

Thank you once again, thank you. And for the package too.
