What made it worse is that prior to the finale fixing everything I was thinking the series was actually rather brave for an anime in showing that sometimes hard work and positive thinking aren't enough to change things, that some people are just born with advantages while others aren't, that not all of your dreams always come true, and that life can be so very unfair at times. Then the finale came in with "Never mind all that! Everyone's happy and everything worked out for the best! (We put you through the emotional wringer for nothing!)"
